About me

I’m Phumudzo — a full-stack software engineer based in Cape Town, South Africa. I’ve been building things professionally for 7+ years, and for slightly longer if you count the projects nobody should ever see.

I write TypeScript for a living, occasionally Rust when I feel like suffering productively, and C# back when I was making racing simulators feel real. My work spans web, mobile, desktop, and the terminal — basically anywhere users can click, scroll, or rage-quit.

What I do

I currently work at KingMakers as a Senior Frontend Software Engineer, building the frontend for gaming platforms across Africa — BetKing, SuperSportBet SA & Zambia, and others. Responsible for everything users see, tap, and occasionally argue with.

Before that, I spent four years at SoImagine Systems as a Senior Software Engineer, shipping 25+ production systems for government, enterprise, and SaaS clients — from workforce management platforms to anti-corruption software to pathology backends for the Gauteng Department of Health. The kind of projects where “it’s broken in prod” is not a fun sentence.

Before the web, I was at The VRoom, writing motion software for gaming simulators and integrating hardware to make virtual racing feel physical. I also occasionally strapped in to “test” it.

Things I’ve built

On the side, I build tools and products I actually want to exist:

  • RayAI — AI-powered idea validation and product development platform. For people with too many startup ideas and not enough data.
  • Maneja — Social media management and scheduling SaaS. 140+ creators use it to not post at 3am manually.
  • Bettervex — Production-ready SaaS starter built on Convex, Next.js, and BetterAuth. Monorepo, realtime, auth, subscriptions — the whole thing. 22 stars and counting.
  • Cyte — CLI that crawls websites and converts them into Markdown. Built for AI agents, but humans can use it too.
  • typed-fetch — Fetch wrapper that watches your actual API responses in development and generates TypeScript types. No schemas. No lying to yourself.
  • Vawlt — Terminal vault for todos, ideas, and issues. Per-project SQLite journals, full-text search, recurring tasks. Published on npm.
  • Lory — Cross-platform desktop wellbeing companion built with Tauri and React. It reminds you to take breaks. You will ignore it.
  • ShotX — Turns X/Twitter posts into clean screenshots. No API keys, no sign-up, no excuses.

Tech I reach for

Frontend: React, Next.js, Remix, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS
Mobile: React Native, Expo, Flutter
Backend: Node.js, Deno, Bun, PostgreSQL, Prisma
Desktop: Tauri, Rust
Cloud: AWS, Azure, Cloudflare, GCP, Firebase, Supabase

A bit more

I’m from Limpopo, grew up speaking TshiVenda, SeTswana, and English. Started at UNISA studying Computer Sciences, left early, shipped anyway.

I care about developer experience, fast interfaces, and tools that don’t get in the way. If something feels unnecessarily hard to build or use, I’ll probably try to fix it.
